Global AI Governance in the Public and Planetary Interest. On October 21, 2026, the University of Helsinki, the Global AI Policy Research Network, led by the AI Policy Lab at Umea University, in conjunction with FCAI AI Day 2026, is hosting a free, day-long hybrid symposium in Helsinki and online. Bringing together researchers, scholars, industry practitioners, public-sector actors, and civil society, the event will examine responsible AI governance, policy, and ethical practice in the public and planetary interest. Key themes include public-interest and civic AI, climate and planetary health, defense and security, democracy, humanitarian action, the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The symposium is open to the public, and will be recorded and livestreamed.
